Nutritional supplements

Nutritional supplements give you vitamins that you might not get from your diet. It can also add vitamins that are depleted from other medications that you take. However, if you use nutritional supplements to complement medications, you need to take some precautions.

Nutritional supplements can interact with drugs and cause problems. Always ask a health professional about side effects and interactions between prescription medications and vitamin supplements. Also, make sure that each doctor that you have know about the medications that others prescribed as well as the vitamin supplements you take.

A few other precautions to keep in mind when taking nutritional supplements with medications are:
• Do not keep medication and nutritional supplements in the same container.
• Do not take medications or nutritional supplements beyond the expiration date.
• As soon as you experience any side effects call a doctor or physician and if one is not available go to an emergency room for consultation.
