How do you tanning beds work?

Tanning beds work by exposing you to alter violet radiation. The radiation is given off from bulbs in the machine which surround the user. The two types of radiation given off are ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B.

Are there benefits to using tanning salons?

Members of the tanning industry say that using tanning bed's can provide health benefits. They say that moderate tanning can help stimulate production of vitamin D. They also add that using tanning bed's can help protect from premature aging and sun damage by helping you avoid sunburn.

What are the cons to using tanning salons?

Doctors say that research has shown that UV exposure is linked to skin cancer. Still, most agree that more research is needed to advance the claim that connects tanning salons to skin cancer. Many doctors also do not feel that people should be exposed to moderate amounts of radiation.
